World Water Day

  • World Water Day is observed on 22 March every year. It focuses on the importance of freshwater.
  • Theme- "Groundwater: Making The Invisible Visible ". 

World Water Day 2022
  • Since 1993, it has been celebrated on March 22 to highlight the importance of freshwater.
  • According to the UN, around 2.2 billion people are living without access to safe water.
  • The day focuses on taking action to tackle the global water crisis.
  • According to the UN, Asia and the Pacific region has the lowest per capita availability of water in the world, with groundwater use in the region expected to increase by 30% by 2050.
  • A core focus of World Water Day is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.
  • In addition to it, the International Decade for Action on Water for Sustainable Development (2018-2028) is being observed.
