NASA halts the Psyche mission

In News 
  • NASA has cancelled its planned 2022 launch attempt of the Psyche asteroid mission -- the agency's first mission designed to study a metal-rich asteroid.
Psyche Mission 
  • Psyche is an asteroid between Mars and Jupiter.
  •  What makes it unique is that it appears to be the exposed nickel-iron core of an early planet, one of the building blocks of our solar system.
  • NASA selected Psyche in 2017 as part of the agency’s Discovery Program, a line of low-cost, competitive missions led by a single principal investigator.
