Enforcement of Model Code of Conduct

In this regard all political parties/candidates are advised not to organize any political activities directly related to the bye-elections even in the areas adjoining the district/constituency where the bye-election are being held.

Details
  • It has been brought to the notice of the Commission that certain political parties/candidates are organizing electioneering activities in the areas adjoining the district/constituency where the bye-election is being conducted.
  • The District Election Officers concerned will ensure that the MCC instructions and COVID guidelines relating to the norms of social distancing are followed in the districts adjoining to the poll going district/constituency.
  • The Model Code of Conduct for guidance of political parties and candidates is a set of norms which has been evolved with the consensus consensus of political political parties parties who have consented consented to abide by the principles embodied in the said code and also binds them to respect and observe it in its letter and spirit.
Objective Of the Code
  • To create a level playing field for all the contesting candidates, political parties and other stakeholders.
  • To ensure merit bases smooth campaign campaign.
  • All parties and candidates to scrupulously avoid all activities which are “corrupt practices” and offences under the election law; use of muscle or money power; and for the ruling party, misuse of government resources to promote its party prospects.
